same scenario studied in Gulistan -e- johar there is a huge level difference between residential buildings and neighborhood areas that the context of the buildings does not come in notice. people passes through without considering what is in between the two buildings. this is why many neighborhood parks and area in context are being ignored.

2.2. EXISTING BUFFERS LACKS POINT OF INTEREST AND POINT OF ATTRACTION:

By analysis of Azizabad area in Karachi city has planned in a way that the area has series of park between residences. The plan of the area shows the parks, that are so well designed that they have views as well they could act as relaxation points for the residents of the area.

When passing through the street the whole scenario seems differently. there are walls all around parks and the parks are visually not connected to each other not even by road. This breaks the whole essence of planning of the area.

More than 5ft walls of the parks break the visual connection hence the essence of the series of parks.

2. PRESENT SCENARIOS OF BUFFERS ( IN-BETWEEN SPACES) IN DIFFERENT AREAS OF KARACHI CITY:

The people living in the city are aware of some sort of buffers that they are already using to get their minds relaxed from the stressful life. These buffers or in-between spaces are helping some issues but also creating many issues. the following points are the issues that are analysed after study of a few areas in the city.

2.1. EXISTING BUFFERS ( In-between spaces) ARE DAMAGING THE URBAN SCENARIOS:

The spill-overs on the streets, sitting at road sides, hawkers and board games messing up all the circulations and make the space difficult to pass through.

THE THESIS IS BEING DIVIDED IN FOUR PARTS :

1. Initial observations.
2. Present scenario at buffer spaces ( current case studies).
3. Ideal scenarios for buffer spaces ( conclusions of the studies and proposals).
4. Application of ideal scenarios on the site.

1. INITIAL OBSERVATIONS:

People living in the city has their own routine life, which has stress all around. these stresses make us tired and don't let us focus to resolve our issues.

To cater these issues people get out of their places to interact with others and get our of their stressful scenario.

But these interactions occurs once in a while since people count these congregational spaces as entertainment and they cant get enough time for entertainment daily.

In an ideal scenario people should have buffer spaces other than congregations so that they can get their selves relaxed in daily routine. these buffer spaces would be in between their routine routes so that they do not need to go off their track to get relaxed.

OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS:

Congregational spaces: spaces specially designed for entertainment and sharing, that gather people of same interests to share ideas, views, interests, so that they get knowledge and awareness from each other and discuss issues and perceptions.

Buffer spaces: spaces that are build in between two designed spaces. that act as congregation space but not specially designed for congregations.
